Did you know that dried or frozen non-wood forest products such as mushrooms, blueberries, wild strawberries and others are just as in demand in the market as freshly harvested ones?
A large quantities of non-timber forest products are harvested in Polog region (North Macedonia) that are not guaranteed placement. The only way to prevent the mushrooms or blueberries from rotting is to properly dry or freeze it within 24 hours. The products stored in this way can be used in the long term and the local population can be motivated to continue collecting non-wood forest products.
CNVP contributes to the development of the local economy by awarding a grant to the local business – Hostel Kitka Vratnica as part of the project “Sustainable use of natural resources in Shar, Korab-Koritnik and the Albanian Alps” financially supported by Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust – PONT, which has an excellent idea of how to help the collectors of NTFPs to properly process the collected quantities and to offer them to foreign and domestic tourists who visit the village of Vratnica and the Polog region (North Macedonia).
